A Strictly
Summer Ball
On July 7th 2018, we undertook our most ambitious project to date, a themed ball. This was the first Summer Ball held for The University Hospital of North Midlands staff. It was an extravagant evening of Dinner, Music and Dance. The UHO had female vocalists and performed an eclectic mix of Big Band, Opera, Popular and film music to provide a back drop to Bethany Goddard and Matthew Keeble, All England Latin Ballroom Champions 2017, who performed  exhibition dances to thrill the audience. The audience also enjoyed the strictly styled music, from UHO and a disco to dance the night away. We plan to undertake similar events in the future. We had hope to repeat this event but due to the impact of COVID we have been unable to repeat this event yet. We do however plan new concerts for summer 2022.
Trentham Gardens Summer Concert
We have performed on the Amphitheatre stage by the lake of Trentham Gardens in 2017 and 2018. On June 7th of 2019 we were privileged to celebrate the D-Day landings of World War II. We shared an evening with the D-Day Darlings, Finalists of "Britain's Got Talent 2018", performing music of the 1940's. As expected we played the wonderful big band sounds of the era, sounds that included Glen Miller numbers, film themes and other memorable music. It was an entertaining evening capped by a firework finale .
Concerts Through The Years
UHO has as a tradition of performing a Christmas Concert, a concert and carol service, now an integral part of our calendar. We performed a concert in 2018, an especially memorable occasion when we commemorated the Centenary of World War I. The evening's program contained an eclectic mix of music that reflected the tunes of the era, music of the Armed Forces to recent block buster films based in the 1920's. We were thrilled to have as our Honoured Guest, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Elizabeth Shenton. After a long spell over COVID when we were unable to meet and rehearse, we reconvened in September 2021. We are pleased to have welcomed many new members. As a result we performed a celebratory concert at The Double Tree Hotel, Hanley. The music reflected the moments of the COVID, gave thanks to front line workers and celebrated all that Christmas means to us. Again in 2022 we enjoyed a celebratory performance that included, poems, Christmas music and carols, and off course our wonderfully talented sin
Concerts Through The 2022
UHO enjoyed a successful year of concerts in 2022. We emerged from COVID, as keen as ever to enjoy playing music together. We delivered the music for the University Hospital of North Midlands Charity Gala evening go Awards. What an enjoyable evening of music and well done to all those who won awards. In October we enjoyed performing two concerts with the excellent Newcastle Male Voice Choir and The Chanteuse Ladies Choirs. The evenings commemorated the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. We played music that we hope reflected the joyful way in which she had dedicated her life to the service of the United Kingdom and The Commonwealth. As ever we the programme contained something for all musical tastes; Elizabethan Serenade, the joyful Penny Whistle Jig, Rhapsody in Blue and the reflective theme from Out of Africa. Our Christmas concert was a festive delight of Big Band music blended with Christmas film theme music and audience participation in carols, Mike Barnett was compere and vocalist. The sell out concert, no doubt helped by a good spread of festive pastries in the interval, we like to think helped to bring in the festive season. In April 2023 we enjoyed a shared performance with The Keele Women's Community Choir, to mark the crowning of King Charles. We shared poems from across the United Kingdom and played music that reflected both the cultures from across the commonwealth. The Choir brought a wonderful eclectic range of styles and cultures from all over the globe that also reflected the commonwealth. Our guest star, Apurna Jeganathan, brought a fusion of Indian culture and western music, playing wonderful tunes on a Vina, (a ancient form of sitar).
